Reconstitution & Mixing Guide

How to properly mix bacteriostatic (BAC) water with lyophilized peptide powder to create an injectable solution, while protecting the integrity of the peptide.

What You'll Need

Reconstitution is a simple process, but working with clean supplies and a steady hand protects both the peptide and your research.

Bacteriostatic Water

The standard diluent for multi-use vials. See our Handling & Storage guide for how long an opened bottle stays good.

Sterile Syringe & Needle

Use a new, sterile syringe to draw your water. Never reuse a needle that has already punctured a vial.

sanitizer

Alcohol Swabs

Used to sanitize the rubber stoppers on both vials before every needle insertion.

Peptide Vial (Lyophilized)

Your freeze-dried peptide powder, stored properly prior to mixing.

Step-by-Step Mixing Instructions

  1. 1
Sanitize the stoppers. Wipe the rubber tops of both the BAC water vial and the peptide vial with an alcohol swab, and let them air dry.
  2. 2
Draw the water. Using a clean syringe, draw up the amount of bacteriostatic water called for in your protocol.
  3. 3
Add it slowly, along the glass. Insert the needle through the peptide vial's stopper and let the water trickle down the inside wall of the vial rather than injecting it straight onto the powder. This reduces foaming and unnecessary agitation.
  4. 4
Swirl - never shake. Gently swirl the vial in slow circles between your palms until the powder fully dissolves. This can take anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.
  5. 5
Let it rest if needed. If some powder is still visible, let the vial sit at room temperature for a few minutes, then swirl again. Avoid any vigorous motion.
  6. 6
Check clarity. The finished solution should look clear and free of particles (unless the specific compound's guidance says otherwise). Never use a vial that looks cloudy, discolored, or has visible flakes.

warning Never Shake or Vortex

Shaking, vortexing, or otherwise violently agitating a reconstituted vial can denature the peptide - breaking down its structure and ruining the batch. Always mix with a slow, gentle swirl instead, and give it time to fully dissolve on its own.

After You Mix

  • edit_note
Label the vial with the date it was mixed so you can track freshness at a glance.
  • ac_unit
Refrigerate between uses - never freeze a reconstituted vial, as ice crystals can destroy the peptide chains.
  • block
Discard if it looks off - any vial that appears cloudy, discolored, or has been left unrefrigerated for an extended period should not be used.

For full guidance on refrigeration windows, the bacteriostatic water 28-day rule, and travel protocols, see the Handling & Storage Guide.
